A 16-year-old Hudson boy was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a van as he crossed U.S. 19 on his 2006 Honda all-terrain vehicle.
The crash occurred around 1:10 p.m. just south of Bolton Avenue.
The teen was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the driver of the Chrysler van that hit him was a 66-year-old Spring Hill man.
As of Tuesday, the crash was still under investigation.
All-terrain vehicles, or ATVs, often provide a great deal of fun and enjoyment to riders in the Pasco County area. However, while an ATV can be exciting to tool around in, these machines are quite dangerous, especially when operated by inexperienced drivers. If you or someone you love has been injured or killed in an unfortunate crash that could have been avoided, it is important that you understand your rights.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 800 people are killed and 135,000 more are injured in ATV-related accidents each year. If you or a family member has been harmed in an ATV collision caused by the recklessness or carelessness of another person, you may be entitled to financial compensation for your losses.
